| Brennan Cornwell
is a walking anachronism. Close your eyes while he sings and plays
and you're transported back in time to the days of Woody Guthrie
and hobos ridin' the rails. Cornwell has spent his life studying
American folk styles, some of which are fast disappearing. He performs
several genres with eerie authenticity: blue yodeling, country and
hobo blues, rockabilly, western swing and early country rock. His
guitar playing includes eclectic musicology such as Hawaiian steel,
a sound not much heard in this part of the world. His voice lends
itself well to the intimidating job of replicating Jimmy Rodgers'
blue yodels and Hank Williams' lonesome moans. He is musical Americana
personified. Cornwell fuses all these influences into a style uniquely
his own, connecting the past to the present in powerful, contemporary
ways.
